
The Company is bound by the National Privacy Principles ("NPPs") contained in the Privacy Act 1988 and by the Australian Psychological Society's Code of Ethics for the handling of personal and health information. The Company may collect personal information about you, including your first and last name, street address, phone number, email address, and other information, such as (if you are a client) information relating to your psychological condition and your mood. In addition, if are a psychologist who has submitted an application to be registered with the Company, the information we collect may also include personal information provided in resumes such as your insurance policy number, professional registration details, reference, education, employment qualifications, memberships and competencies.
The Company may obtain information:
- when you give it to the Company directly. For example, if you are a client, when you complete the registration form, the screener before you make a selection from the panel of Consultant Psychologists and the mood assessment form following a therapy session, and if you are a psychologist, when you submit an application to the Company;
- f you are a psychologist, from other parties, for example when doing reference checks;
- when you contact the Company via the Site; and/or
- by cookies when you visit the Site. A cookie is a small amount of information which may include the date and time of your visits to the Site, the pages viewed by you and the time spent on the Site. This information is transferred to the hard drive of your computer which can identify your web browser, however, none of this information is associated with you as an individual. If you wish, you can disable your web browser from accepting cookies. If you do, you can still access the Site, however, you may not be able to take full advantage of some aspects of the Site.
The Company will not collect or monitor personal information about you without your consent. However, if you choose not to provide any of the information requested by the Company or you do not consent to use of your personal information for the purposes set out in this policy, we may be unable to send you further information, fully process your application or provide you with suitable online psychological services ("Services").
The Company will use your personal information in accordance with the NPPs. The information we collect is used:
- if you are a psychologist, for assessing your application and to carry out checks with third parties (to the extent permitted by law) to verify the information you supply to us; and
- if you are a client:
- for providing the Services to you;
- or improving the Services provided to you and other clients;
- for promoting and marketing the Services; and
- for research and the compilation or analysis of statistics relevant to the Services, including evaluating its effect on your psychological condition. This may involve providing your personal information to third parties who are conducting such research or statistical analysis in relation to the Services.
If the Company uses your personal information for direct marketing or research purposes it will obtain your consent before doing so.
The Company will take all reasonable steps to de-identify your personal information before it is disclosed to any third party for promotional, research or statistical purposes. In the event that research or the compilation of statistics which is in the public interest cannot be undertaken with de-identified information, and where it is impractical to seek your consent, the research or compilation of statistics will be carried out in accordance with the NPPs and the guidelines issued by the Federal Privacy Commissioner.
The Company shall take all reasonable steps to ensure that any third parties to which your personal information is disclosed will be bound by the same privacy standards set out in this policy.
The Company will not disclose any personal information about you to any third party, except:
- as provided in this policy;
- the Company's contractors and service providers performing services including (but not limited to) marketing, research, mail-house services, and product development services;
- n law enforcement, public health or public safety circumstances;
- where required by law; or
- where you have authorised the Company to do so.
The Company will not share, sell or trade your information to any third party that can be used to identify you or contact you.
The Company will take reasonable steps to ensure that all information we collect or use is stored in a secure environment and is accessed only by authorised employees for the purposes set out in this policy.
If you wish to:
- access or modify personal information which the Company holds about you;
- request its removal from our records; or
- request more information about how we manage your personal information,

However, in accordance with the NPPs, the Company is not required to provide you with access to information that the Company has about you in certain circumstances, including where:
- it would be unlawful to provide the information;
- it would pose a serious and imminent threat to the life or health of any individual;
- it would have an unreasonable impact upon the privacy of other individuals; or
- the request is frivolous or vexatious.
We will give you reasons if we cannot provide you with access to information that the Company holds about you.
We will take reasonable steps to destroy your personal information in a secure manner or remove identifying features from it if we no longer require it. This is subject to any legal obligations we may have to retain information for a certain period of time.
